Former Brigadier General Ronald J. Johnson,
a native of Duxbury, Mass., graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, N.H. He is a Graduate of the Amphibious Warfare School, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico, Va. and the Naval War College in Newport, RI.
Following graduation from the Basic School in September 1980, Brigadier General Johnson was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines, as a platoon and company commander. In March 1983, he was assigned to the Marine Barracks in Portsmouth, N.H.
In March 1985, he was assigned to the Ground Defense Force in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as company commander. Following completion of the Amphibious Warfare School in May 1986, Brigadier General Johnson was assigned as a military observer with the United Nations in Lebanon and the Sinai.
Returning to the United States, Brigadier General Johnson was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, as a company commander and the battalion operations officer, deploying to Southwest Asia in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
Upon completion of Marine Corps Command and Staff College in June 1992, Brigadier General Johnson was assigned to the Amphibious Warfare School as an operations instructor. Brigadier General Johnson was then transferred to USACOM with the J5 from July 1995 to July 1998. During this assignment Brigadier General Johnson was assigned as the advisor to the Central Asian Peacekeeping Battalion.
Brigadier General Johnson reported to the 2nd Marine Division on July 1998, where he assumed command of 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, a post he held until July 2000. He attended the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., and then was assigned to PP&O at HQMC in Washington, D.C. In July 2002, he reported to II Marine Expeditionary Force, where he served as the Current Operations Officer and the Operations Officer for the 2d MEB in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
He commanded the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit from June 2003 to April 2007, participating in OIF-2 and the evacuation of American Citizens from Beirut, Lebanon.
Brigadier General Johnson reported to Plans, Policies and Operations (PP&O) June 2007 where he has assumed the duties as Director, Operations Division (PO).
Brigadier General Johnson's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with (2) gold star and Combat ‘V,’ Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with gold star, Joint Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon with gold star.
Retiring from the Marine Corps in January 2010, former BGen Ronald Johnson began Mares Associates, LLC, a successful consulting firm where, to date, he works with many friendly foreign countries in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and South America. In addition to Mares Associates, He helped create and remains the Chief Operating Officer for Brite-Strike Technologies, a high-end tactical illumination company located in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
